The great mountain passes of the Hautes-Alpes
Col
BRIANÇON
The Col du Galibier, Col de l'Izoard, and the Col de Vars are three of the legendary Hautes-Alpes mountain passes. Made famous by the Tour de France, they are also known for the astonishing beauty of their natural environments. From the Col du Galibier you can see the nearby Meije, the highest peak in the Écrins National Park. One side of the Col de l'Izoard, between Briançon and the Queyras, has a somewhat lunar landscape while the other side is wooded. The Col de Vars gives access to Italy from the Hautes-Alpes, along a stunning Alpine road.
